Drill 1

Dribbling Tag

Drill Time
10 Minutes

Drill Setup

• 20 x 20 yard gridded area.
• Each player will have a ball.
• The coach will pick one player to be the “Tagger”.
• Once a player is tagged, they change roles.
• Progress to multiple taggers.

Drill Objective

• Have fun
• Dribbling
• Coordination and agility

Coaching Points

• Encourage your players to keep their head up when dribbling
• To make the activity challenging, have them use their right or left foot only

Drill 2

Knock Out

Drill Time
10 Minutes

Drill Setup

• 20 X 20 yard gridded area.
• Each player will have a ball.
• Each player will try and knock each other’s ball out of the square.
• Once a player’s ball is knocked out, they must sit down outside the square.
• The game ends when only one person is left in the square.

Drill Objective

• Have fun
• Hand-eye coordination
• Dribbling and shielding

Coaching Points

• Have players keep the ball close to the body.
• Turn body sideways to protect the ball.
• Keep knees bent, back straight “Be Big” when shielding the ball.
• Try to keep the ball on the outside of the foot and furthest away from attacker.
• Use a stiff arm to help shield the ball, no elbow or hand!

Drill 3

1 vs 1 Goals Facing Away

Drill Time
10 Minutes

Drill Setup

• 15 x 10 yard gridded area
• Have players get into TWO equal lines.
• Make two small goals.
• The coach will roll a ball onto the field, one player from each line will run to the ball and attempt to score on EITHER goal.

Drill Objective

• Dribbling with pressure
• Defending
• Scoring goals

Coaching Points

• Have players be creative
• Use change of speeds with the ball
• Use fakes and feints when attacking the defender
• To challenge your players, have them score with right or left foot

Drill 4

3 vs 3

Drill Time
15 Minutes

Drill Setup

• 20 x 30 yard gridded area
• Create two equal teams.
• No goalies.

Drill Objective

• Fun
• Game situation

Coaching Points

• Have players stay spread out, “No bunch ball”
• Have players to keep a “Triangle” shape
